ION Foundation — Titanium
ION Foundation is a precision-engineered fountain pen exploring the mathematical and intellectual foundations of modern computing.
The design brings together a curated collection of equations, algorithms and mathematical notation drawn from computer science and machine learning. From linear algebra and optimisation to neural networks, probability and computational models, each represents part of the mathematical language operating behind the digital world.
Engraved across the surface of the pen, these expressions transform the normally invisible language of computation into a permanent, tactile object designed to be carried and used every day.
The collection is accompanied by a limited Alan Turing ICON card, created by Charles Lethaby to recognise one of the defining figures in the development of theoretical computer science and modern computing.
Precision-machined from Grade 5 aerospace titanium or anodised aluminium, every ION Foundation is individually machined, engraved and assembled in small batches. The result is a functional writing instrument that combines engineered precision with an appreciation for the ideas and individuals upon which modern computing was built.
Compatible with standard international ink cartridges and converters, ION Foundation is designed for daily use while remaining a highly collectable object for programmers, engineers, mathematicians, designers and those fascinated by computing and technology.
Each pen is supplied with a paper authentication certificate as standard. Aluminium and Grade 5 titanium authentication certificates are available separately through the Authentication Works page.
All Compact pens are supplied with a double-threaded barrel as standard. If you would like a double thread on any other size, please contact us using the form, quoting your order number.
Supplied without a logo as standard. Optional end cap engraving may be requested after purchase.
