Introducing RELIC 03: LUNAR ASSIST — the third work in an ongoing series of singular metal artefacts by Charles Lethaby.

Each RELIC is conceived as a one-of-one object. No two are the same. Individually machined, finished and resolved by hand, every piece exists as a unique artefact, defined not only by its form, but by the subtle variations inherent in its making.

Crafted from anodised aluminium or titanium, LUNAR ASSIST captures one of the most elegant manoeuvres in spaceflight: a spacecraft sweeping around the Moon to harness its gravitational pull before accelerating back towards Earth. The composition reduces this fleeting moment of celestial mechanics to its essential forms, balancing precision with restraint.

The graphic is not applied, but engraved directly into the surface itself—embedded within the material to create a permanent image that cannot fade, peel or wear away. The surface is carefully finished to produce a restrained satin lustre that reveals itself gradually as light moves across it, allowing the object to continually shift with its surroundings.

Measuring 89 × 64 mm—the proportions of a traditional baseball card—each RELIC transforms a familiar format into a permanent object of enduring material presence.

RELIC 03 is a singular work. Once allocated, it will never be reproduced.
