RELIC 03: LUNAR ASSIST — Titanium 1/1

RELIC 03: LUNAR ASSIST — Titanium 1/1
Introducing RELIC 03: LUNAR ASSIST — a singular metal artwork by Charles Lethaby.
Individually machined, engraved and finished in Grade 5 titanium, this piece is strictly 1/1. Once acquired, LUNAR ASSIST in titanium will never be produced again.
LUNAR ASSIST captures a spacecraft travelling around the Moon, using its gravitational pull to alter its trajectory and continue its journey through space. The composition brings together the spacecraft, lunar surface and distant Earth — a moment where exploration is shaped as much by the forces of nature as by human engineering.
The title references the gravity-assist manoeuvre: the use of a celestial body's motion and gravitational field to alter a spacecraft's path. LUNAR ASSIST reflects on the precision required to navigate beyond Earth, and humanity's ability to understand and work with forces on a planetary scale.
The engraved titanium surface creates a restrained interplay of light and shadow. Fine details emerge gradually as the piece is viewed from different angles, revealing new characteristics as the metal responds to its surrounding light.
Sized to the proportions of a traditional baseball card, LUNAR ASSIST measures approximately 89 × 64 mm, translating a familiar and collectible format into a permanent material form.
